What if any modifications do you make to the hooks on your Bombers, Rapalas, Yo-Zuris etc when fishing for trout and salmon?

On the Reef Runner Ripsticks,I replace the stock hooks with #4 Gammy Round Bend Trebles or VMC's.

The stock hooks are very weak(designed for walleye).

Jim, I just had an order of Lyman plugs come in, and switched the hooks out with those VMC crankbait hooks...the ones that have two normal hook points, and the one large one, like a wide gap or something. Those things look mean. I just wasn't impressed with the stock hooks on the Lymans.

The stock hooks on Yozuri Crystal Minnows will take the abuse from salmon and trout. I don't change them. Same with the Rebel Fastrac's, but on those I remove the front hooks. It seems that the front hooks on cranks (Bombers and Fastracs) only catch the net.

I haven't found a good replacement hooks for Bombers, Rapalas or Rippers - maybe I'll try the hook SkeinMachine recommends.

I've been replacing them with Gama EWG trebles. Not sure of the size.

I agree with Hiatus, the stock hooks on the YCM's are salt water quality, super strong.

BnG,I've never had a problem with the stock hooks on Lymans

Nothing a hook hone can't fix.

Do believe they are Eagle Claw trebles on the Lymans.

Treble hooks on Lymans are alright, didn't loose any salmon with them, if I would change, it would be Eagle Claw 1/0 treble hooks

Did change treble hooks on Ping-ATs, too much of a radius on the end of them

If you can remember Ping-A-Tees you are an old time Salmon fisherman. They are deadly on Kings in the fall when they are schooled up in the harbors. They just have to be trolled sloooooow. Otherwise they turn upside down and all you can catch then is seagulls.

This is a Ping-A-T (Salmon Killer)
troll it slow or fast, if it is snagged, let it go and it will float to the top, where you can deep dive it again
Fortunately I have 21 varies colours including Glow ones
Gotta love them, by the way, change the trailing treble hooks
Sorry Gerald

My father in law replaced the rear hooks on his jointed Rapalas with a 1/0 single. We went 3 for 3 on that setup last weekend on skams in Indiana. I'm going to switch a couple of mine over to try like that since the singles were all buried and we didn't lose any fish on them. Looks like a great option, also replace any brass split rings with steel ones as they will open up under extreme pressure...
