After reading the story of the boat going down by the bath house in Ludington. It just makes you wonder sometimes if going to the Bank is worth it. Last year I came across a net that was marked with a life jacket. I never did get caught in any nets yet. KNOCK ON WOOD. It is a pain in the ass to fish that Bank area sometimes. What sucks is that a lot of big fish are caught there. Makes you wonder what are in the nets. They sat White fish but I really doubt that. Just my 2cents.

Since I fish Ludington almost exclusively, I'll throw in my $0.02. Personally I will not fish the bank when I am simply fun fishing. I will consider it (but only do it if absolutely necessary) in a tournament situation. I will tell you that there are a lot of fish that are caught in locations other than the point. In fact, most of my largest fish I have landed out of Ludington have come from deep offshore locations.

My suggestion to anyone that decides to fish the point is to make sure you have cable cutters CLOSE at hand should you decide to take the risk. I cannot emphasize enough... it is a risk!

I guess this was a long winded answer to your simple question, but in my mind it is not worth the risk especially when you as a captain are responsible for returning your crew back home safely.

I don't see myself fishing inshore on the point, especially this year, the tribal nets are spread from the 01s to the 07s right along it. It would take some extroidinary circumstances to even fish it in a tournament.

The problem I have is that the wings are not marked on the nets, so safely fishing around them is difficult at best. Which is unfortunate becasue the guys that scored well on Saturday at the Grand Haven Offshore were fishing in and around the commercial nets, which present large structure.

As Tim said there are plenty of places to put big fish in the boat - and those are the places you'll find me working.

I agree, I didn't come out and say it but the last time I fished the bank was last July. I also find it more enjoyable to go offshore. When your fishing if your lucky you may only see a few boats. Heading over this weekend.

I fish out of Two Rivers, WI, and even though they are not tribal nets here, they are still a problem. They are placed everywhere by us, and even though they are marked decently, it still could improve! It scares the hell out of me in the fog, and have talked to people that have set up right in them with out realizing it. I feel they are a major danger, and would like to not only see them marked better, but also have coordinates available so you could mark them on gps and just stay away from them.
