I fish out of Ludington MI on Lake Michigan - we get great browns, steelheads , Kings, Cohos, and lakers - big Kings for us are 25 lb. with an occasional 30 lber. I hear of 40 lbers in Lake Ontario is that true.
You are always welcome if you in West Michigan - we'll go bang'em - just drop me a email.

Hey ceazar - so what kind of techniques you using over there in NY. What where the hot setups this year for ya? Interested to see if you guys are doing the same things we are - could be interesting

the hot item for this year was dipsy divers 110 to 250 on the wire howie fly 18 to 24 in with a green med flasher of course spoons were also good michigan stinger ruled the year

The hottest for use was Blue Bubble Fly with spin doctors (black/glow, whit/mountain dew, white crinkle/glow) running Slide Divers 125 - 175 with occasional 225 out. Mono high divers, wire low divers.
Blue spoon variations (DW, SilverStreak, ProKings ...) and Super Glows were productive for us.
Lead Core rocked all year long for Steelies and Coho (end of year) - if you weren't running cores you were missing fish.

Hi Alan and Mikell ! Nice to see you over here. I've often wished that I could trade our Michigan and Huron numbers for your Ontario size. What colors of Spin Doctors and flies were good for you? If I'm not mistaken, your water isn't as clear as ours (more nutrients there). I'm just curious how light intensity affects hot colors.

Thanks Jim. From what I hear... you have the numbers...we have the size! Last season was our first season salmon fishing, we are still learning, but had no problem bringing them in on spin doctors! Mt. Dew/CG was our go to. Green seaweed and then in Aug... went with pickled sunshine...worked everytime out! Purple was also good. (if I remember correctly... should have made a log... didn't expect the fishing to be good enough to bother) Looking back, I said... my only goal was one king before the season ended. Well, a few weeks later and then it was... just one over 20lbs... then it became... to win the FairHaven challenge! (did manage 4th... with good luck that day... or, probably more like bad luck on the other team's parts) Lots of 20 somethings... and in Mid Aug biggest for us was 29 1/2 lbs. ...plain 'ole smoke dodger in 220FOW...one rigger left out...just idling ...(pulling up to move)!!!

Cool! You guys got a great start on it! You're hooked now I bet. You know, what if... the reason that 29#er hit was because you only had one rigger in the water. Hmmm. I have an extremely hard time running less than the allowed number of rods but the more I hear stories like that, the more I consider toning down the underwater rock concert to a string quartet.

a few ice cubes... and it could have been a 30Lb'er but, who can troll one single deep rigger...at 2mph all day! ...and yeah, counting the days 'til april 1st (target launch date)
