Update: Fish are still being taken off Monroe in the 23-25fow range. Lots of 2003 class, but bigger ones are there too. Speed seems to be extra important, as the little ones seem to have a tough time catching up to cranks and such over 2.3mph.

Go Get 'Em!

I prefer to troll for eyes as well. My favorite times are fall through spring. At night we troll the drowned rivermouths off Lake Michigan with electric motor and rods in hand imparting a pumping action to the bait in between pauses. This is a barely moving troll .5 to 1.0mph along steep breaklines in 14 fow and it has accounted for many fish and some hawgs! F13, F18, HJ12, HJ14 Rapalas usually do the trick. Daytime I like the DHJ12, and HJ14 off leadcore and snap weights trolled 1-1.5 mph off in-line boards in 30+ fow. 2-3 colors core has been most effective for me. Casting for them in the same spots and shallower to 2 fow can also be deadly. We also cast for them off the West Michigan piers after dark in the spring for the spawning dropbacks.

Here are a couple pics from our area.
