I've got to get my new Shimano TDR-1802 and TLD (Charter Special) ready to go. What line do you think I should put on them?

well depends how you are going to use them. Standard downrigging probably 20 lb. but if you're using them for walleye and such may want to put like 12 lbs. on them.

For downriggers I used 15 pound Ande last year, but found it to be a bit unforgiving if you miss catching a nick in the line or something. Next time I think I'm going to use 17lb.

30lb Power Pro for dipsies or 30lb 7-stranded malin wire. 27lb leadcore with 30lb Tuffline backing and 17lb Berkley mono leader. I also have a hodgepodge of reels laying around with 20lb on them that I still use occaisionally.

20 pound ande on the downriggers, 30 pound wire, and 50 lb spider wire on the inner dipsies, I don't like losing tackle. 27 pound on my lead core. I'm a poor man so all I can afford are daiwas.

I like Momoi Diamond line. I get it from The Outdoorsman Pro Shop 616 457 3630 but I think Boaters world also carries it. It is tough as nails, and supply. 20# breaks well over 30 to my knowlege. that goes on all backing, rigger rods and leader material. If fish are Picky and i need something lighter I switch to 15 yozuri Hybrid. I also have lots of others around, but those are my first choices. this past fall I started using 30 for leaders on the rigger rods and sliders and it didnt make any difference on catch rate. Just as a side note, the Best Chance boys said they use 30# big game on all their reels in one of their seminars last year. theory is to land all the fish they catch and not lose the big ones. good theory.

I'm suprised no one said big game for mono on riggers, I have used 20 lb big game since i started fishing the great lakes and have had no problems.
The price is right too.

Try a "Hi-Vis" line. I'm using Hi-Vis Yellow Stren. You can always put on a couple of feet of clear leader if you are concerned about hiding the line. Doesn't really seem to make a difference either way - confidence thing I guess.

Right on Keith. I've been having trouble finding the Trilene Big Game in Hi-Vis Green in bulk. That has been my favorite over the years. Switched to Stren mainly because it is easy to find in bulk. It's served me well so far.
