Hey Hal, too bad we haven't gotten out together this year. Been doing great on perch the last couple of weeks and walleye too.
I've been going out and trolling with two 7# Ridgebacks down and running (small) Stinger spoons with short leads and doing good on walleye...Right off Stoney Point in 18-23 ft of water.
Schools started up again and I'm stuck to fishing the evenings and weekends like the rest of the mortals now
Best,

Chip,

I don't know where the summer went. I had big plans to get into walleye fishing, but somehow that never happened. One day in July, I did a little drift fishing by the dumping grounds with no success, and then it was Labor Day. Maybe this fall we can wet some waders. . . before the lake starts icing up this time???

This coming Saturday, I'm taking my son-in-law and his father out perch fishing. Have any secret hot spots you would be willing to share? (PM me if you prefer.)

I'm sure I can find perch, but to date, I've not found any heavy concentrations or anything with size--mostly 6 to 8 inches (or smaller). I've been thinking about venturing out into the deeper Ohio waters to see if I can find some of the bigger ones. Any suggestions are always welcome.

Thanks,

Hal

Hal, last weekend we got 100+ nice perch by fishing in 23-25 ft due east of Stoney point. I've had some great success off the stone break wall at Sterling State park in 12 ft of water too. Even caught two 5 lb smallmouths on the perch rig!! Now thats exciting!!
Anyway I may be out sat. too give me a shout on 68......."fishin chip".
We definately will do some of the wading this fall...it is awesome.
Best,

Chip,

Tried hailing you the last three weekends, but couldn't raise you. I'm one of those casual fishermen that hits the waters around 11:00, so you were probably already back home with your limit by the time I got out there.

I ended up staying fairly close to home instead of going up to Brest Bay. It's about a 10 mile run up there for me, and the old boat would burn about $125.00 in fuel to make the trip. I decided that the smaller perch in fewer numbers were just fine.

Still looking forward to doing some wading this fall.

hey Hal, i really didn't get out like I had planned and then when i went I decided to troll for walleye running the 7# Ridgebacks and picked up three in about an hour. I was trolling around where all the perch boats were......off stoney point in about 23 ft. Didn't hear you holler..so next time it is!!
We WILL get together for some 'nite eyes this fall for sure!! I'll let you know when they are in.....
Best, Chip
