Was looking at JR's thumper rods, was told the guides were made out of tungsten/titanium, not sure which, and they were better than rollers. Am not happy with my present roller rods and was looking at the Blue Diamonds for wire. They are a nice looking rod and the price ( around $90.00 ) for a 9 1/2 footer wasn't too bad. This was at Sportsmans Warehouse in Depere. Need some thoughts and opinions. I have a tendency to pump my rods, so don't tell me I shouldn't! Too old to relearn.

I used the 10 ft BD rollers last season.

The blank is kinda stiff when new,but after awhile, softens up.

The blank telegraphs the dodger action very nicely.

I'm not familiar with that particular rode but I do know a bunch of people that run their wire not through roller rods. Most guys have a twilly tip or an aftco roller tip and then use regular guides.

I used the shimano talora roller rods and they performed fine for me, although I think Coz had some trouble with his Talora roller guides.

Still have issues. This new rod with the swivel tip has been kept at the proper angles while trolling and is starting to show the same symptoms as the old one.I use it as a dipsey rod.I cant believe that I am the only one that has had issues. This rod was new on july 4 weekend and maybe used 20-25 times at most?I have many of the other Talora rods and they have performed very well I have everything from 7' med light for the riggers to 10'6 medium for the dipseys.Only problems are with the rollers. If I get a chance I will call Shimano on monday.

I have two talora roller rods (fixed tip) that have close to 400 hours trolling wire dipsey rigs over the last two years. They have performed flawlessly and I would highly recommend them. I also have two Heartland (heavy action) rods that I put Aftco roller tips on and used approximately 200 hours last year. They performed very well and show no appreciable wear from the wire. I might add that these Heartland rods had been used for four or five years previously as dacron dipsey setups, point being that these are excellent rods for the money no matter what you use them for.
Mike.

I like my 8' 6" Blue Diamonds. Use 'em for dipsies though, not thumper. I find myself rarely using thumper anymore.
