We all think about it, at least I do and all my friends that boat. If money were no object for initial purchase or operating expenses, what would you buy for great lakes fishing. Tell us why. If you focus on tournies or simply fishing with friends might change your decision. you have to pick one boat to do it all.

I would take the new 52 Viking Express with the largest motor package available. Its still faster than my boat and big enough for the whole family to come along, and three or four more families too. Rigged with all the goodies of course.

What would you take?

Man that's a good question again there paulie. But since you added the operating cost was no object - it was a tough choice

But I'd have to go with the 68 Hatteras

with the high output package with the MTU 16V-2000 CR with 2400 BHP each. And it's a good thing that operating cost was no object because filling up the 2100 gallon capacity would take some buranable cash flow.

I would get this boat because it's big enough to live on anywhere I wanted to go and if I had that much money I'd be retired and be on the lake everyday following the tournamnet series - but then I'd also be motor out of the Great Lakes as winter started to fish my way down the Atlantic coast following the Tuna, Sailfish, Cobia, Marlin, etc... all the way down to .... wherever.

or the 68' Viking with the same engine package ...

whichever one I could get delivered first

I could never take going that slow !! even if you are tacking the living room couch with you . Life is too short and there is not enough time to fish as it is .
This is the best of both worlds! and a dream to fish.

I like the Vikings and the Hatteras...how could you not???

But my first choice would be this bad-ass 61' Garlington-Landeweer convertible.

Custom built, 65' LOA, 17.5' Beam, Cruises at 39 kts. with MAN 1300 hp. diesels...and don't forget the one-of-a-kind Guy Harvey murals throughout the very accomodating cabin.

Going that slow eh frank ... I think I can handle a 40 knot cruise on a 68' long 21' wide boat. It might be slow to you but it's almost twice as fast as the Tiara I can handle that and have my couch and 4 staterooms LOL.

the fish blood stays on the montorous cockpit, then washed out by the firehose sized washdown! Got to keep the inside nice for the ladies!!!

I may have to revise my decision to the slightly larger Viking 74. I like the layout of an express, but since money is no option, I would just have a cockpit control center installed so I can fish with just 2 people if need be. Obviously I would have to go with the 2030hp motors, actually larger if they could fit

I guess mine is a little more realistic. They have a vidio tour for the new Wellcraft 36' coastal. http://www.wellcraft.com/Boats/Boats_Detail.asp?c=1&b=466
