Alright, since I'm now boat shopping, and that process may take awhile, I've decided to focus my efforts on accumulating tackle and rod/reel combos for when the time comes that I can utilize them on my own vessel. I'm not looking to bust the trust fund here....just looking for recommendations on solid, economical combos for trolling for both walleyes and salmonoids. I'd like to come up with not only rigger combos, but leadcore, dipsey, and inline board combos as well.

the tr200 on a trd rod is not a bad set up...for birds the work out real nice. Plus in the spring Sherilys had them for 60$ for the tr200 with a trd rod. As for the 209's for the price sure there ok...a lot of guys started with 209's me included, but once you get into trolling you will find yourself lookingto upgrade the 209's. So I would say skip to 209's
Clark,the tr200 is available in combos for $59 from a few places.If I remember right the rod that comes with the TR200 is an 8'TDR which will work on riggers or birds .I am also going to an estate sale where there will be salmon gear PM your daytime number if I can reach you on friday am.Otherwise if they are a little high on price I am going to leave my number with them and tell them to call me after it is over to make an offer on all of the gear.

IMHO you can't go wrong with the Bass Pro Shops Daiwa SG47LCA reel/Gold Cup rod combos.
The Gold Cup rods are $59.99 bought separately, but when you buy them with the SG47LCA, the package runs $129.94. Since Daiwa SG47LCAs have a "pegged" price of $90 or so, it means that the Gold Cup rods are being sold for around $40 or less.
The Gold Cup rods come in 8', 8.5', & 9.5' lengths. These rods are just as good or better than Shimano's Talora line IMO (All Gold Cups come with gimbal butts, not so with Taloras).
I own 10 such combos and they are great for salmon and your other nemesis, the walleye.

Clark, We have 4 sg 47lca's with 4 rigger rods(heartland 7' 6") for sale. 1 year old reels used for 2 months then rebuilt all the drags thru Tuna Tom in Ludington. Brand new 20 pound big game also. I'll add to the list on th TR 200's great rigger reel. I like the SG 47 lc for most other applications.
I also have a pair of Okuma Convectors LC's, 30 series. Jury is still out on them, as I just picked them up last winter.
I also bought a pair of Convectors (big ones for a full core) Jury still out also.
Keep an eye on E bay. You can pick up some great deals, I bought those Convectors lc 30's for $40 each. You really need to know exactaly what your looking for and shy away from anything you don't feel good about.
Some guys will not buy anything from a salt water area. I keep an eye on the area it's coming from but have bought salt water reels. Two years ago I bought two Diawa 47lc the great lakes version. $50 for the pair, they were like brand new. I used them for the season and had Tuna Tom in Ludington rebuild the drags, I'm still using them.
When collecting fishing gear patrience is a HUGH virtue, a lot of guys post stuff on these swap boards that's a good deal. Good luck and enjoy picking up new stuff

You may want to check out the spring edition of Bass Pro Shops Catalog. I just received my copy in the mail and they had a ton of trolling rods, reels, and accessories on sale.

Go Fish has a good point, there are a lot of good deals going on before Spring! Just stopped up at Cabela's Monday night also, man they have some nice stuff up there. I would probably spend my whole paycheck up there if I could get away with it without the wife knowing!
Hey Clark, I used to live and die by Diawa rods and reels back in the day. They still make some good stuff even today!
