Maumee RIVER CONDITIONS: 2/09/06

THE WATER TEMP. THIS MORNING WAS AT 34.7 DEGREES. NO WARMING TREND FOR THE UPCOMING WEEK. THE RIVER LEVEL WAS AT 583 1/2 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL. CLARITY WAS POOR.

WADING OVER TO BLUEGRASS ISLAND IS NOT POSSIBLE.
(The normal summer river level is 579 - 580)

FISHING REPORT: 2/09/06

WHAT A TERRIBLE WINTER WE HAD FOR ICE FISHING. SO WARM THAT FISHERMEN WERE CALLING US IN JANUARY TO ASK IF ANY WALLEYES HAD MOVED INTO THE RIVER. THE ANSWER WAS NO. WITH THE WEATHER BACK TO NORMAL, THE RUN WILL MORE THEN LIKELY BE AS ANY OTHER YEAR. I'M SURE WE WILL SEE OUR FIRST WALLEYES NEAR THE END OF FEBRUARY TO THE BEGINNING OF MARCH. IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT MARCH IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. SOME GOOD NEWS IS THAT THE WALLEYE LIMIT DURING SPAWN ( March 1st thru April ) INCREASES TO FOUR INSTEAD OF THREE. THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR THE LIMIT IS SIX. THE 15'' MINIMUM SIZE ON WALLEYES REMAINS. OTHER RULE CHANGES FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON IN OUR AREA IS A INCREASE ON THE DAILY BAG OF PERCH FROM 30 TO 40. IT'S GOOD TO SEE WALLEYE'S AND PERCH ON THE REBOUND.

Here is the updated river conditions for everyone awaiting the spring run in the Maumee River, looks like the old pole might be coming out of the garage this weekend!

RIVER CONDITIONS: 2/23/06

THE WATER TEMP. THIS MORNING WAS AT 36.1 DEGREES. THE RIVER LEVEL WAS AT 581 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL. CLARITY WAS POOR. WADING OVER TO BLUEGRASS ISLAND IS POSSIBLE. ( the normal summer river level is 579 - 580)

FISHING REPORT: 2/23/06

SO FAR THIS SEASON VERY FEW WALLEYES HAVE BEEN CAUGHT. BACK IN JANUARY THERE WERE THREE CAUGHT THAT I KNOW OF. MORE THEN LIKELY THEY WERE RESIDENT FISH. IT IS HOWEVER GETTING CLOSE TO WHEN WE START SEEING THE FIRST PART OF THE RUN. I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED TO SEE A FEW FISH THIS WEEKEND.

Funny guy, huh Greg?

I definately welcome anyone down who wants to fish, the way it looks BFG will be able to hold a couple guys in his river boat and myself and Braden (Ruch0416) will be able to hold a couple guys in our river boat. We'll show you guys were they are at, we just can't promise you the bigs hawgs were going to catch!

There nothing like pulling in a 10-12 pounder against a swift current. That fish feels like it weights twice as much with the current, let alone if it starts making a run for it! That is if you lucky enough to keep it on!

RIVER CONDITIONS: 2/27/06

THE WATER TEMP. THIS MORNING WAS AT 36.8 DEGREES. THE RIVER LEVEL WAS DOWN AT 580 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL. CLARITY WAS AT 5 TO 6 INCHES. WADING OVER TO BLUEGRASS ISLAND IS SAFE. ( the normal summer river level is 579 - 580)

FISHING REPORT: 2/27/06

WALLEYES ARE STARTING TO MAKE THEIR MOVE UP THE RIVER. ON SATURDAY ONE YOUNG ANGLER FISHING WITH HIS FATHER AT THE BUTTONWOOD ACCESS WAS THE FIRST TO BRING A WALLEYE INTO THE SHOP. HIS FISH WAS 26 3/4 INCHES LONG AND WEIGHED 7lbs 15ozs. I DID NOT TAKE A PICTURE. IT WAS THE SAME WALLEYE THAT MADE THE NEWS. ON SUNDAY JOHN SPURLOCK OF MAUMEE ( 13 yrs old ) CAUGHT A NICE WALLEYE WEIGHING IN AT 9lbs 11ozs AND WAS 27 INCHES LONG. JOHN CAUGHT HIS WALLEYE AT JEROME RD. EVEN THOUGH WE ONLY SAW TWO FISH THIS WEEKEND THERE WAS ONLY A HALF A DOZEN ANGLERS FISHING EACH DAY. I THINK IT'S GREAT THAT TWO YOUNG ANGLERS 12 AND 13 YEARS OLD WERE WILLING TO TEST THE WATERS AND BE SUCCESSFUL. HUNDREDS OF FISHERMEN AND WOMEN HAVE BEEN CALLING THE SHOP SINCE THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY TO FIND OUT IF THE WALLEYES HAVE STARTED THEIR RUN. THANKS TO TWO YOUNG ANGLERS NOW YOU KNOW.

Ahh yes...the start of another run...

Happens every year...a couple fish are caught this early and then the next weekend the river is full of anglers....

Nice marketing tactic for the tackle shops though!!!

Troy,
I think the fair deal would be is get these guys in the river next to us and let them catch some (oversized perch)... Then well head up to Michigan and see how we do on the Steel fishing.

Can't wait to get out there and fight freezing line and guides!

I am sure that I will be one of the many that are out there when the numbers increase.
