Last year at the Uecker in Racine Team EO was privlidged to get a pure GL Grand Slam boating a brown, king, laker, coho, and steelhead our first 5 fish of the day.
What do you consider a grand slam - only 4 speices? Have you had a grand slam?

On lake.O,a Grand Slam is a King,Coho,Brown,Laker & Atlantic.
A Super Grand Slam is a pink added to the mix above.

Skeiner, what about a Steelie? They're not exactly the red headed stepchildren of the salmonid world.

I would consider it 5 fish for a grand slam. Any 5 Salmon/Trout of different species.
6 would be a Super Slam.
My Dad got one on his birthday back in the 90's. He personally boated a chinook, coho, steelhead, Brown trout, and Laker. It was one of the last trips we got to take my Grandpa out on the water.
Someone should try to get IGFA to recognize the Great Lakes Grand Slam. Though, the Ocean Grand Slams are by an angler, not by boat.
When you can get 5 different species on the boat you have had a great day on the water.

My boat had that oppertunity 3 times last year. I personally did not but my guests did. I had a first timer that got all 5, I don't think he realized what he actually did.Several were not trophy fish buy any means but really neat to get all 5 in one trip. Must have been a great driver.

A number of Coast Guard Festivals ago we chartered Thunderduck for an afternoon outing where Capt. Willis helped us score a king, coho, laker, brown, and both a regular a skamania strain of steelhead.

I believe that I have been a part of three Grand Slams, all on the West side of LM aboard the Trollinator. One was caught just while fun fishing, the other two were during SU tourneys.
The one that sticks out in particular was a September Illinois Salmon Unlimited tourney out of Northpoint, with just me and Capt. Steve running 6 lines. We caught our 10 fish limit which included a 5 fish Grand Slam....king, coho, brown, steelie, and a laker.
In winning the May Wisconsin SU tourney aboard the same boat, we were a brown trout shy of a Grand Slam, and the guys that finished second to us (Capt. Craig Bender) had the Grand Slam. The week before at Waukegan, we had the same 4/5, unable to convince a brown into the boat off of Lake Forest.
I've seen many Grand Slams at weigh-ins on that side of the lake. Pretty cool!

Despite the fact that I generally target only king salmon and consider all other species to be "bonus" fish, we typically get 2 or 3 grand slams each year. In 2005, we were fortunate enough to achieve it 3 times.
The first occurred on 8/19/05. That day, we took a five-man limit that included 8 coho, 9 kings, 4 steelhead, 3 lake trout and 1 brown trout. The actual grand slam was taken by one angler; a first-time guest. And to top it off, the brownie ended up being our biggest fish of the year for 2005 at 21#. We also missed a 2nd grand slam the next day, ending up without a brown.
The other two grand slams happened on consecutive days, 9/9 and 9/10, as part of an incredible 3 day weekend of fishing. Over those three days, we took a grand slam on Friday and Saturday, and missed the three-peat on Sunday when we couldn't find a steelhead.
On the west side of Lake Michigan, a grand slam is definitely achievable, even if you don't specifically target the various species.
