A message from the BW Classic Chairman

The Classic this year was a great event. As a first time chairman I know there are bumps to work out and I am looking forward to year 2. A huge thank you needs to go to the top notch committee of the Classic this year. When you see Karen & Bob Roskey, Bob Lane, Preston Schroeder Jr, Mike Rymar, Mike Warshefski, Bill Lill, Paul Baker, & Rob Helzer tell them thanks for enhancing this club the way that they do. The Port Huron team was headed by Karen Roskey and what a spectacular job she did. Even when the tent fell Sunday in the Gale force winds, Karen never missed a beat and problem solved. She also ran the weigh-in with Jim Glumbowski and Rob Helzer and kept the tournament very professional. Bill Lil had to overcome many obstacles in Port Sanilac, and he & his team were terrific. Mike Warshefski ran Lexington and faced the untimely death of his father during the tournament. Mike came back and with John Coutillo and Frank Biessel and crew they ran that port with remarkable professionalism.

I was blessed this year with help of people I am proud to call friend and next year this tournament will be bigger & better because of the volunteers who will it to be that way.

Thanks to all for making this our best tournament. Have a great summer.

The boat Ivanhoe has been a mainstay in this club for many years. With Jay Korneffel as the captain you can bet his team is top notch. There is one member of the Ivanhoe crew that rates a special mention. His name is Leo Williams. At 81 years young Leo drives the Ivanhoe team to fishing spots that help them place every year. Leo has been fishing since he was a young lad growing up in St. Clair Shores. Imagine, how much knowledge this man brings to a team. And, he has seen it all when it comes to the ups & downs of the fishery. I hope we all have the opportunity to be as active and strong at 81 as Leo Williams is. I wonder if he would give us some of his insights into the fishing or is that an Ivanhoe trade secret. Three cheers for Leo Williams our oldest angler in the Classic

Hats off to Mike Warshefski. Mike was the port captain of Lexington.
We usually try to have a camp/base/trailer set up at the ports for the volenteers at the ports. Mike and his father were out during the week prior, cleaning up their trailer to bring to Lexington. Mike's father fell off a ladder had hit his head badly. Mike's father passed away over the weekend during the tournament. Mike still ran the port.
My heart goes out to make and his family.
