Events at a recent tournament has illuminated an aspect of being a responsible tournament angler that will be in the forefront of my thinking at weigh-ins. After talking to a number of professional anglers in salmon, walleye, and bass tournaments over the last couple of days each trail has basically the same rule ...

Check your weigh slip before you sign. After signature re-weighing is not allowed and no changes can be made.

I've always looked at the signing of the weigh-in slip as somewhat of a formality, but it must be looked at more critically. If you beleive there has been a weigh-in error - either technical or clerical - DO NOT sign your wiegh-in slip. Before you have signed your slip you still maintain recourse for re-weighing of your catch or addressing of your greivance.

The bottom line is don't be afraid to question the weigh-in if you think something has gone awry.
