SAR mini-tourney strategies....

Per the chat discussion last night, and after Coz provided the last 5 years of Salmonarama stats...I pose the following questions regarding the Two on a Boat, Silver Sweeps, and GLA Challenge...

Should teams consider hammering the shallows for browns as opposed to plying the deeper waters for kings, rainbows, and lakers? Brown trout have won the last 5 SAR's for largest fish...and there were some absolute pigs weighed in last year.

Seems everything we read on most message boards is targeted towards catching kings, but rarely do we read about targeting browns in the warm-weather months. With the king size noticeably smaller in recent years (although last year may have shown a slight increase) it would only make sense to target the browns, especially for the mini-tournies within SAR.

Is fishing for browns in the summer different from fishing for browns in the winter? Same tactics? Same locations? I recall catching 6 browns one July morning a few years back in <50fow just south of the harbor mouth at Racine. We also took a pig of a king that day (20.4#) in the same location.

Just seems to me that a lot of teams at SAR are so focused on kings, that they run right over (and forget) the browns right under their boats for the first 10 minutes of running.

Any input is appreciated. My largest brown to date is a 9# caught by accident last year during SAR. I'd like to improve on that...
