Mercruiser started a bunch of big changes in the mid 80s
The oil alert system was a option at that time in the early 90s they made it standard equipment on most models
The sensor for the tan wire with blue stripe (if i remember correct) is in the little aux drive oil tank mounted on top of the motor near the carb.
be aware though there are a lot of these motors running around that had the wire harness with these wires in them that where never hooked up to any thing . the wires where there in case some one wanted to add this option some where in the mid to late 80s these wires where in all the standard wire harnesses
