Did you loose any fins off of the old water pump impeller? If so look for them in the thermostat housing they might be in there plugging the little by pass holes
This is why it’s so important to change water pump impellers before they fail they can send these little rubber parts into the cooling system causing a multitude of different hard to find cooling problems
The thermostat housing diverts water away from main engine cooling duties to the exhaust manifolds the problem is here or there is a restriction in the exhaust manifold it self not allowing enough flow to carry off heat from that side
Good luck let us know how it turns out
Also a good tool to figure out what’s going on with a cooling system is to temporarily install some clear tigon hose where the black rubber hoses are . this will allow you to LOOK and see what’s going on in the cooling system . There should be the same flow to both manifolds and no air bubbles
Clear hose is readily available at most ace hardware stores
