Useful life of an Outboard Motor?

Anyone feel free to answer, Honda cat if your looking I'd love you opinion.

I'm curious as to how long a well cared for 150 HP outboard motor "should" last. It's only had fresh water use, I'm assuming it's been properly cared for and winterized.
I know for a fact it's never been in salt water. The motors (yes twin Outboards) one of the reasons for my concern, if something goes wrong twice the cost, have 1100 to 1200 hours on them and are about 14 years old. Do those hours agree with the age??
I haven't seen the motors, as I know if I see the boat I'll fall in love the dang thing and be hooking to the back of the truck before a survey is complete.

If I was in the market for a pair of 140 to 150 hp motors is there a used market I could pick these up on? I'm also wondering would a 250 Hp Four stroke work almost as well? I know I'd be losing some power, is there a reference to look at to see what is reccomended for a particular boat.

I guess my overriding question is: with the age and hours on these enginges, how much do they have left in them?

This will be a touchy area with the wife as I have no plans to get rid of the 19 ft CC I have now. SOOOO, if (BIG IF) I was to spring for a second boat it would have to be maint free for a while. These motors would be my biggest concern, I think (hope).

Thanks

Tim
