Any input on using split rings on the front of spoons?

Some come with them stock - others don't. I'm using DUOLOCK snaps (as opposed to coastlock style) and thinking of running my spoons without split rings. I've heard that you only need splitrings if using the coastlock style snaps or tying direct.

Note: I bought from rings from a spoon / fly manufacter and they were just JUNK! Once opened to put on the spoon they never snapped back. They just stayed open. I could only imagine the trouble that it could cause. I bought some generic ones at Fleet Farm and they work great !
