Frank,
I hope you can help me out on this one.
My batteries last year were getting low so I changed them for this season. I went with the Optima batteries. Group 24 for starting and 31 for the house. My volts on my meter are in the 12.2-12.6 range on the dash gauge and on my Lowrance x-15 they show the same for the most part. sometimes they dip to 11.8 or 11.9 then go back up to 12.4-12.6 most of the time while trolling. When up on plane running they are 12.8 or so most of the time.
I assumed the Alternator was going out so I bought a new one and replaced it last week. No change. Everything is the same. My local mechanic suggested the alternator is shot and I should be getting close to 14 volts while the motor is running. The Volvo parts dealer said nothing in regards to output other than it sounded like my alternator was shot.
I cant for the life of me remember if the gauge ever was close to 14 or not. Wonder if it has to do with the Optima batteries or if I am just hallucinating?
Any advice would be great.
Alternator is on a Volvo 7.4 GI 2000 motor
Vovlo Part # is 3860082
output 12V 65A GRD NEG
Vendor Part No. ACI 65622
SAE Marine J1171
Made by MANDO Korea

Hours about 1450 on motor. Original part before the change out

Now I have spent the $245 and gone through the hassel of changing it out and the results are the same as before????
