core spooling

I'm currently in the process of adding sections of core to my Magda 20's and 30's. When I stripped the 10# mono off the 20's the other night, there was about 1450' on the spool. Is it safe to make the assumption that 20# mono is twice the diameter of 10#...and if so...would 600' of 20# Big Game plus 2 or 3 colors fit on a Magda 20?

For those of you that use the 30's, how much backer do you use for your 4-6 color rigs??

Am I wasting my time using Mono backer in the first place??? Suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks guys.
