Our last tournament fishing was tough
We where banging the bottom for Lakers
One of the riggers goes reel it up and nothing there
The spoon is skiing on the top 10' from the back of the boat but a closer look ten foot behind that there is a big shadow we chop boat speed and rip line off the reel as fast as you could
The spoon drops below the surface and begins to flutter

This big ass brown in plain sight opens his mouth so big it could have swallowed a 16" soft ball
And BAM
The line burning begins about ten minutes later we land this money fish$$$$

These 4 fish beat out 7 for first place

Several years ago I went on a trip to Ludington break in my buddy's new used boat. We were met by swells that were well over our heads when we were at the bottom but we set lines anyways, young and dumb. One of the riggers fired and our not so angling savvy friend took the rod out of the holder. The rod snapped in two with the sound of a rifleshot but I didn't get to see what happened as I was grabbing the rod from another rigger that was screaming drag. Broken rod and all he could still feel the fish and continued gaining line on it but it soon became apparent that he was across my line. We did a little over under drill to try to get the lines unwrapped without success so we just continued bringing the fish to the boat jokingly arguing over whose fish was bigger. We both thought we had dandys. When my fish broke surface and I was able to get a good look at it I noticed something trailing it through the water. Naturally I was quite puzzled as to what in the world it could be and then it hit me... It was the broken tip half of my buddies rod. The fish had taken his spoon and my j-plug within a few seconds of each other! My buddy whose boat it was couldn't leave the wheel in such treacherous seas so the greenhorn dropped his broken rod and grabbed the net which sent shivers up my spine and not in a good way. Imagine every rookie mistake you've ever seen with a net, he did them all. First he tried to net it while it was still under and he couldn't see it. Then when he could see it he jabbed at it as though he had a harpoon in his hands. Then he tried to net the fish tail first which gave it new life and it dove and came back up wrapped on the rigger wire. By this time he was getting hell from both me and the captain and would have rather just threw the net overboard I'm sure but he took another swipe at the fish headfirst like I told him but only succeeded in hooking the trailing hook on the j-plug to the outside of the net. He lifted the fish straight up out of the water which bent the hoop down at a 90 to the handle and pulled one end of the hoop right out of the handle. I dropped the rod and grabbed the handle to help him pull the fish over the boat just in a nick of time before the netting came off the hoop. Wow! what an ordeal. Now netless (no spare) we headed back to the launch with only one fish in the box but what a memory. The fish turned out to be the biggest brown trout of my life at 21.5# but it is still disputed to this day who actually caught it.
