I personally like shot gun starts , I like the adrenalin rush of 130 boats all lined up outside the harbor waiting , counting the minutes , until someone has experienced it it is hard to understand. Also I can lay back if I want and let the faster boats get out and let the water calm a little , I don't but I could. That has to be the call of the captain and team , is it safe to proceed , just like you would if weather was a question . The problem is when some one dosn't follow the rules of the road and good common sense and somebody is going to get hurt or killed , the kind of start may not have anything to do with it , just plain lack of judgment or common sense. It don't even have to be a tournament for that to happen , just look at all the crazyness on any Aug. weekend or check out how many guys run their boats right up on the wall or rocks , you must always be in control of your vessel and aware of those around you.

Flat Rate is right the adrenalin rush is intense on the shotgun starts and seems to always be the same no matter how many starts like that you experience. It seems that, as is often the case, it is a select few that spoil it for the rest.
