Got my Ridgeback Rattlers today - awesome looking and well-made. That pink prototype is going to kill them hoepfully casue if it don't the harrassing will be relentless - but I bet I have everyone fish pink downriggers weights by the end of the season. I will be proudly leaving that weight to hang on the way in and out of the harbor. Can't wait to get these all in the water as soon as possible - what a long wait for spring ... maybe I'll go after some Tuna with them.

Hey Greg, glad you like the looks of the Ridgebacks, thanks again for the vote of confidence on a new product. But don't worry....I have all kinds of guarantees that go with them!!!! I guarantee they will sink, they will look real pretty in the water, and your life will change when you start hanging the pink proto-type off the back of the boat!!! I laughed out loud when I read your above post about having everyone running pink weights.....wouldn't that be a hoot!! It WILL tell you how much people are paying attention tho'......funny!!! Really though, I stand behind the Ridgebacks and if you are not completely satisfied, I will gladly buy them back. (really, cause I'm running low on 9#'ers Ha!!) As with any new product, I am interested in your feedback, especially on the proto-type as I usually make only one or two of those, just to see how guys like 'em. I'm ready to go uncover the boat right now!!! As a matter of fact, if you know anyone that still has their boat in the water and wants to do some last minute testing for me...I have some top secret 11# proto-types finished today that I need to have run down to 200ft. to see how they run. Rick, sounds like a plan. When exactly are you going? I really need them run down deep and a comparison against the regular Ridgebacks as far as depth goes. Chip , I am leaving Friday Dec. 10th about noon , I can take my Ridge Backs along as well to run them against if you want . I am meeting Dave at his place Fri. afteernoon of the 10th. , if you want to send them to me thats fine , e-mail me and I will send you my address or you can send them to Dave , whatever you work out is fine. I will ask Josh to go out a little deeper and try them for awhile , we may not get to run them down 200 feet but we can at least run them side by side with the 9 pounders and see the difference. You gotta promise me that you'll take good notes and take good care of 'em. I don't care if you catch any fish, just want to know how they track and run (deep). Chip, sent you an e-mail , if you don't get it let me know , I think I typed in the correct address. Yes this is a very nice site and I hope to see it really take off , I have it as one of my favorites and check it a couple times a day . Would also like to see our Steelheader site take off and get more traffic on the disscussions board , but I guess it will just take some time for people to know its there and start using it. Need to start making a list of items that I would like to check out during the winter and figure out wher I can hide them till spring.

thank for the compliments fellas - I appreciate you guys posting and sharing your experience ... I'm getting better as a fisherman just from chatting back and forth. We've been flying under the radar trying to get the site right - but I'm pretty confident that we got it where it needs to be. Please feel free to share the URL with other like-minded folks .... please LOL! I actually have cards that just promote the site - no names - just the URL and some other stuff - be glad to send you guys some if you want.
Just as a side note - this is only beginning - we are working on some technologies to help fisherman be more productive and to get and share better information. We just crested the 50% complete mark on one new technology that is scheduled for release for late February. I think this is going to change the way people collaborate about fishing using the Internet. Hopefully I can recruit you guys to beta test and beat it up prior to release I think you're going to dig it.

Greg , I was going to mention in an upcoming issue of our Great Lakes Sport Fishing News in my presidents report some of the web sites that I have found and like to check in with , if you would like I will mention this site as well , its up to you. There are several sites out there , some are just ok and some are really good and there are probably some out there that I don't even know about. I don't always agree with everything said on every site or with every ones views but that is what is good about the www is that there is a lot of info. to be had from all stand points and views , you just have to sort out what is best for you. By the way , don't be afraid to ask questions , the only dumb question is the one not asked , there are enough people to come up with an answer that we can all gain some knowledge from some ones question , " you can't learn what you think you already know". I think todays salmon angler just starting out is more knowledgable today than we were starting out 20 plus years ago because of the info that can be obtained for sites like this.

I'd love to have you mention the site in your President's Letter - that would be awesome. I see you an Great Lakes Angler (http://www.glangler.com) alot and you have a very good member rating. I've learned a bunch of great stuff there - defintely helped me outfit the new boat. The thing about Educated Angler is we don't shy away from talking about other sites. Although we really don't like site bashing - and other than language, personal attacks, and pornography issues - we don't want to restrict the content of the site. We built the site so that every member that wants to can post in the message boards, can submit links, and can write, edit, and publish stories all from Educated Angler.
My background is computing from way way back - and I have been a memebr of some of the very earliest online communities such as "The Well" back before the days of the WWW and I'm a firm believer in online community building. I think too many sites out there are about sponsors, advertising, and hate mongering that they lose site of their goals - our goals is all about fishing, boating, and fun. In additon we want to promote our sport and conservation realted to our sport and that's why we will remain free with unpaid banner advertising. First I don't think it's fair to make money off of other people's efforts - so when we get more people writing content we are not making profit off their free efforts. Also Educated Angler will support those who support us through their efforts by putting up banners to promote thei products. Some point in the future if the cost of running the site becomes a burden we will rpobably accept donations for site operation - but the core of Educated Angler will always remain a free online community. This is not to say that we won't have related activites that could potentially generate profits - but not as a burden to our members.
As you'll see with the previously mentioned upcoming technology we will be about Educating Anglers - I think your right about learning to fish today versus 20 years ago. I grew up trolling with lead fille dcoffee cans as downrigger weights and victrolas, hand lining, bottom bouncing, jigging and doing anything possible to catch walleye, bass, pike, and anything else that would bite on Lake St. Clair. I feel fortunate that I was able to buy our first boat rigged and ready to go for salmon, that I was able to make friends with a number of charter captains that fished on our boat as well as fishing their boats on those rare days when the charter captains were just fishing. I learned alot quickly - but there is always so much more to know - although the original concept of this site was in response to the scattered and hard to find information about learning how to fish. That's why we support referencing other sites that have useful information - becuase our membership will never know all
Hopefully I didn't abuse my soapbox but I did want to take the time to tell everyone what Educated Angler is about in the broader sense. The number one goal is to make friends and fish - what could be better?
