how much braid

how much braid should i be putting on a reel for running dipsey's? i have large enough reels to handle at least 1000' but do i need a 1000'of braid?

My personal experience is that I will run around 200 yds of braid with the rest being mono backing. This gives you plenty of braid to run along with enough for those "reel screamers" and yet it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg to spool your reels. Just my opinion. Good luck.

I will normally buy a 1000 yard spool of braid and put 500 yards each on two reels. Admittedly that is overkill, but that is just the way I tend to do things. If I was less OCD about it, I would probably just buy 300 yard filler spools and fill the remaining capacity with mono. My attitude is always better safe than sorry. Just my $0.02.
