Kyle,

I am to the understanding that you may have the Stinger rod holders on your boat. I am interested in your opinion on these and if you think they may be strong enough for wire dipsy's?

Thank you.

Richard

Richard,
I have four of the great lakes holders which I think are now stingers.. I really like these holders because of being able to set any angle with them and also they are a little shorter than most holders which makes it really easy to get a rod out of them even with a fish screaming line. I rum mainly leadcore out of mine with inline boards but have also run mono and braid dipsies out of them. I never had them slip or move on me so I do think you could run a wire dipsie out of them.

Thank you Kyle for your quick reply. I need a couple of holders for this year and have already spent my yearly limit for the boat. They would see mostly mono or board use but will on accation see the wire dipsy and wanted to make sure they would hold up. I do set my drag light so I thought they would be o.k. Just wanted to make sure before I purchased them.

Thanks again.

Richard

Richard,
You can run wire, mono, and braided dipsys with the great lakes holders. Rich still makes the Great Lakes Holders, stinger puts there stickers on the same holders, he makes them for stinger as well.

Richard , I have 4 of the Great Lakes rod holders and I love them. With the way they are designed all you have to do is pull back on the rod/rod holder and it release's and makes it easier to get the rod out. The farther you push down on the rod/rod holder the tighter they get and you can't lose a rod that way. The only way that I can see you losing a rod on one of these is to have the rod holder itself pull lose from the boat.I run my holders for wire line divers , braid divers and inline boards with lead core. Been running them for 5 or 6 years now and not a single complaint.
We run the Vector rod holders and Trastex rod holders on Experience Outdoors for divers and inline boards and they are also a great rod holders , they have held up to a couple of seasons of hard tournamnet use. Every holder have thier pros & cons and some work on some boats better than others. I don't think you could go wrong with any quality rod holder , just remember , they are like everything else , you get what you pay for.
