I am just getting around to mounting a pair of vector's on each side of my 22' boat. I already have a pair of corner downriggers, but I'm wondering how long I should set the boom. It is sectional from 1 to 4 feet, using a shorter boom is easier but I don't want to risk a major tangle. Any suggestions or should I go for 4 feet? Thanks.

I would suggest atleast 4' of seperation between your downriggers as you look at the from the stern. So if the out downs will essentially be aligned with the corner riggers when look from the stern I would suggest the 4' boom.

However, if the 4' boom is too much of a hassle to deal with then you can use some pancake downriggers weights with bent rear fins to produce additional seperation. Bend one pancake weight for each side to make it swom away from the boat when it's in the water - keep in mind it doesn't have to be a big bend - maybe 10 degrees and then tune them from there to get the desired seperation from the corner riggers.

you can see a shot (this is a large picture) that we are running 3' booms on our out downs. But we have about a foot of seperation from the corner riggers.

A small note here , with swivel base's you can run your rear riggers straight out the back and you corners out on 45 degree angles , this keeps all of the ends of the rigger booms in line across the back of the boat to avoid tangles but the 45 degree angle keeps the needed seperation . I run 4 riggers , 2 straight back and my outdowns at 45 degrees and as Greg said , I also run pancakes on the outdowns and I run Ridgebacks on the rears and I do not have a problems with tangles .

Thanks for the information. I'm going to run the outdowns 4' out and mount retro-ease's to pull the ball closer to the side. Because I need to mount on the gunnels, I will have two straight back and then the outdowns will be in front of these with 4' booms. Hopefully I will avoid any issues. Thanks again.
