Fishing in Muskegon remains good. The weather this past weekend didn't help alot, but we made 7 trips in 3.5 days. The fishing in the channel and pier heads is really hit and miss. Once the south winds blew in the warmer water, fishing got really tough and intermittent. While fishing in the "mud", it pays to pull mirage, seaweed or seamist Horseflies behind green, white or mountain dew flashers. Pearl and chrome based plugs also work. Northport Nailer spoons in Tiger Roughy and Micheal Jackson also put fish in the boat while on harbor patrol.

Once out in blue water, Seaweed, Seamist and Mirage flies all worked on kings but the spoons took over for steelies. Steelhead wanted some hot prototypes that will hit the market next year. Variations of gold blanks with oranges and black on them and the standard Orange Ice (41) and Tiger roughy (65) all worked well in the upper 30' of the water column. Kings and lakers were deeper coming mostly on flies. Big green E chip and the 8" blue and green echips were all hot on deep divers and riggers. 300 copper put fish in the boat also, including one rogue steelie.

As the spawning run winds down a bit, the offshore action is heating up for 3 year old kings and plenty of steelhead. Get out there while its HOT!

Your welcome on the Michael Jackson tip. Actually that was a guess but I have caught fish in the mud on black lures before. Had a great time getting soaked on Saturday.

Thanks Paul

Roy
