Was talking to Coz about this topic at the Sheboygan swap meet but then we got interrupted. I’m wondering about everyone’s favorite SWR rod. I’m thinking the 7 foot Uglies I have might not quite have enough backbone. I’ve got some Okumas but I’m not thrilled with them. I’m thinking the answer might be 8 foot heartlands, the price is certainly right.

Any thoughts,
Dave

I use 9 ft Uglies for SWR,never had a problem, blank loads well, and their practically bullet proof.

Unless I'm pulling 2-5 colors off inlines, then a 8 1/2 ft med-heavy action Daiwa fits the bill nicely.

I use 8 or 8'6" Heartland rods.

The Daiwa Heartland rigger rods work good for SWR duty. The 7' Uglys are a bit limp.

WingNut,

What length do you like? I’m thinking the 8 footers since my downrigger rods are 7 foot uglies and I have a small boat. I like to keep the stuff in the middle short, that way the dipsy rods don’t have to turn into tress.

Time to start cleaning out the boat.

Either 8 or 8.5' will work good. Since the rest of your rigger rods are shorter, your plan to go with the 8'ers sounds like good logic to me.
