Fishing around Manitoulin Island?

We're heading up to Manitoulin Island around the first week in July and wonder what we can expect for fishing. We have a friend in Gore Bay who runs some charters out of there and he'll be familiar with the local situation...but I'm just curious if anyone has recent experience.

I used to live on Manitoulin for more than 20 years...but didn't do any deep water fishing at the time...didn't start until I moved to NY and now fish Lake Ontario. Kind of spoiled by the big Kings here...and I hear there aren't many over 10 lbs. in Lake Huron anywhere. Is that true of the Canadian waters too?

Also...what other fish are being taken? I read the report about the Atlantic taken around Detour...which isn't far from Manitoulin. Are they common? Anyone fish for Whitefish...used to eat a lot of them when I lived there...one of the best eating fish in the Great Lakes!
