Well...I do it once every year, listening to my buddies claim that drift fishing is where it's at....that trollers do not know what they are missing...blah blah blah...

Took an invite from a fellow Maumee River Rat (Steve) to head out on Saturday to try and cast for walleyes. Conrad and Dave joined us. Left the dock at 0645 and headed to where Little Dandy, Cantgetenough, and myself punched out a limit on Wednesday evening (north of W. Sister).

Well...to put it plainly...5 hours of fishing harnesses, weapons, bottom bouncers..with a bunch of color changes...and we ended up with 3 walleyes and 2 perch for our efforts.

I caught 2 sheepies in the first ten minutes then never touched another fish for the next 4.5 hours.

It seems that Mother Erie decided to reign 'ole BFG back to reality on Saturday!!!

Oh well..so it goes. Still had a great time with lots of laughs. Saw Spoonman on the troll several times getting a few here and there. Nice talking with you Bob, and congrats on the good finish in the tourney.

If you're not trying different stuff once in a while, you might be missing something. Sounds like a tough bite over the weekend due to all the mayflies. Perhaps it's not a fair comparison of methods if you're basing it on trips earlier in the week.

It's NOT a fair comparison at all Mike....Wormers have struggled for the most part in '08 on Erie (from what I've read and heard on the radio) while trollers continue to put fish in the box, even under what seems to be the absolute worst of all conditions on Erie..the monster mayfly hatch of 2008.

Now..I DID try alternate methods at the Smackdown whilst fishing with the 'Sconsin boys...riggers, divers, leadcore...that was "alternate" enough for me!

LOL

It was a tough weekend of fishing, that is for sure. Local weather guy showed on the radar what the mayfly hatch over the lake looked like...AMAZING!!!
