I ran the boat to Huron yesterday to spend the fall looking for walleye. Ride from Toledo wasn't bad until I got east of Kelly's. The 1 to 3's changed to 3 to 5's.

Trolled a couple hours before heading to the basin and managed one 6 pounder.

Sounded like most were struggling saturday. Hope next weekend is better.

Do you know of any public launches around the Huron area?

Are you still using stinger spoons or stickbaits? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't trailer my boat and not real familiar with the ramps conditions in Huron. I know there are private ramps and a state ramp being built but not completed yet.

Last year the spoon bite lasted through November in Huron. Some will pull cranks and crawlers but others pulled spoons all fall.

Channel 79 is monitored in the area by most. Vermilion is also a good place to ramp from since it is a little closer to the sandbar. Just be careful with your speed going through the Vermilion River.

There are several places to launch at Huron. The most commonly used one is under a railroad bridge right off of route 6 in town. Not the best launch, but the ride out to the lake is pretty short from there (10 mins). The fella who runs it can be a cranky sucker...and if it has rained, the lot is a mess (i.e. stone/mud).

There is a private marina down the road (up river) that Chinookeith and I used last year that was decent, but you gotta watch the wind, b/c when the water gets blown out, the launch gets pretty darn shallow. I know Keith drug his trailer on the ramp both days we launched there last year, but the wind was blowing 20-30 out of the W/SW....which sucked the water out of the river.

The supposed new DNR launch near the coal docks has not even been started yet. Gonna be awhile...

I would launch from Vermillion. Much nicer ramp. Just watch speed and put your rods and antenna's down.
