We were going to perch today but at the last min. thought we may as well bring some trolling gear to start the day. On the water at 9:00. Laid lines first in 11ft in front of the rock wall. No hits and no marks. Made a turn and trolled the 15ft over the humps and the action was on. Boated 7 eyes with 6 of them 4 to 6 pounds. Best bait was a frenzy 35 back at 1.6 to 1.9. Bonus fish all day long of small mouths in the 3 to 5 pound range. Off the water at 2:00. What a great day to be out. Maybe the fall fishing is coming back to the bay!

Great job! Interesting to see how that fishery sets back up some six months later.

LD, Roamer, and myself experienced a similar day (minus the smallies) in the middle of April.

Good Job!

That spot has been my spot for 33 years now! It stays good all summer if the fish population is good. Late at night and early in the morning they will be there. The quicker they move out of there in the summer and the longer they stay out in the fall tells me a lot about the health of the fishery - population wise. Last couple of years it has definitely gone down. I hope it gets better!

When you say the 15 ft over the humps what area are you refering to? I live on the bay and fish it a bunch, just never heard of such and area.

Thanks

If you look up on shore on the rock wall you will see a black round cylinder. Directly out from that and then south there is a bunch of humps from when they dredged or something. It starts in about 15ft of water. This time of year you will see a few bass guys casting the area. It holds great fall smallmouth and walleye. You have to keep stuff high as it will come up as high as 8ft form the 15. We run anywhere from 20 to 40 back. I will try and give some gps marks when I get my unit fired up. If you are out on the water in the next few weeks call on 68 for the Double Easy and we will show you the area if you have not found it by then.

Cool, thanks very much. May be putting my boat away for the year, but Corey's (CMFISH51) is ready for duck and should be avail to us to try that area out. Want to get out at night and give it a try some time.

JD -

The humps are marked on Hot spots maps. I have one that is about 5 years old and one that is about 20 years old. The humps are on that one also. The humps were made when the Monroe coal plant was built decades ago and are the dredge from the Raisin shipping channel. They are all they way out to about 22 ft. of water. They are on both sides of the shipping channel but the north humps are usually referred to as the The humps. They are underwater islands as shallow as 8 ft in a west wind. The walleye spawn on them in the spring and can hang around them all summer. During the hotter mid summer days the fish will actively feed in the early morning and late night there. The humps also produce Muskies, Northerns, Smallies and all kinds of stuff right along with those eyes. Spoonman, LD and myself made several references to them in postings back in May and early June. You've probably fished them for years and didn't realize their nickname. Tight lines.
