I fished aboard the Optimist boat on friday (10/24). The wind was blowing pretty hard from the south so we decided to try fishing near shore. We caught one walleye off Cranberry and two walleye near the Huron dumping grounds. It was a tough bite and pretty chilly out there.

Saturday I had the Optimist, Hawk Eye, Flip and Josh aboard my boat. We fished the Walleye Central event. There was still a south and southwest breeze. I decided to make the long trip out where I had fished the past two weekends. The ride out wasn't bad but the conditions continued to get worse. The guys aboard estimated the waves to be 4 to 6 foot with an occasional 7 footer. It was definately rougher than I would normally fish in. The rough conditions rewarded us with some nice fish. We caught 16 walleye for the day. Our top four fish weighed 30.3 pounds and gave us a 4th place finish. Poo Bear charters finished first with 37 pounds, In the Net got 2nd place with 32 pounds. Our biggest fish weighed 9.75 pounds.

It was a great way to end the season for Lady Bridge.

How long until spring launch?

Pooh Bear was running all jet 50's with stinger scorpions.

My fish came on dipseys with the stinger magnum size spoons.

We were both targetting fish from 37' to 43' deep.

Doug...

Look at the depths that Rick was targeting...it would be a bit tougher to run Reef Runners that deep...unless you ran 'em behind a dipsey or off a rigger.

I'm just guessing here, but if they were targeting fish at that depth, they were easily 12-15 miles offshore (by looking at the bathymetry map for that part of the lake).

Not saying you couldn't do it...but jets w/ salmon sized spoons can really be good this time of year...as the fish switch over to eating shad..which are much larger than shiners.

I do know this...if you hook up a fish...mark that spot and get back on it. Captain Ron Levitan told us at a seminar that his #1 big fish bait during this time of year is the Deep Tail Dancer in "clown" pattern.

Good luck in the tourney!

Doug,

Most of the top finishers from last weekend were fishing the 35/25 area. That's about 15 miles NNE of Huron.

I'm pretty sure that "IN THE NET" was fishing Reefrunners and finished 2nd place. I think he was in the same area but not sure.

We did catch a couple walleyes with RR back 110 to 150 but they were smaller fish. Prior weeks the RR's turned on for me later in the day.

Maybe Rick of In the Net can further describe his program.

For us it just seemed that the bigger fish were coming deep, although good marks were high at times.

Good luck on the trophy hunt. Sounds like fun.

We have run RR's and cranks to those depths in the past without issue. Run a 1oz or 2oz snap weight with them and you will get to where you need to be. An 800 RR with a 2oz SW 120 back should be around 40ft.

We ran Reef Runners back 100 feet and 40 jets back 100-140 feet. Big divers took our big fish back 70-90 feet on the highs and 50-70 on the lows. We fished 6 miles out in front of Huron and west toward Cedar Point. There's a lot of big fish in the top 25 feet. The best colors in reefs were the white perch and cat/dog. The best spoon colors were cranberry frog and pink panties.

Only ran junior and mini sized spoons. All the big fish came on junior streaks. Fishing into the wind was our best. Trolling slow 2.0 to 2.2 knots.
