This thread discusses the Content article: Stocking cut 25% to save Lake Michigan salmon

Well the count is in for the specific percentage reductions by state. Michigan and Wisconsion will be taking the largest part of the cuts to get to the overall target of 25%.

You just have to wonder if it isn't too little...and too late. I wish they would have been a little more decisive after the red flags of last year. But I guess they have to wait for conclusive evidence before acting. I guess we will see what the outcome is over the next few years. Keep your fingers crossed!

I hope it works. I also think they should supplement the program by increasing the salmon limit in michigan waters to 5 fish per angler per day. I still dont understand their reasoning of reverse psychology for not wanting to do that. Most guys will tell you on the good days when you get the 3 fish per person, you normally can easily get 2 more if you were to stay out a bit longer. Anyway... just my .02. I hope the cuts work.

Former Huron fisherman here...the cormorants are the problem there. After fishing Lake Michigan for the last 2 years, I've noticed an increase of the cormorants here. We need to open season on them and then we will have plenty of bait fish for the salmon.
