This thread discusses the Content article: The DNR really can listen to us

Interseting article. I have maintainted that the DNR does genuinly care about management and they do the best with what they have to work with. Talk to anyone in the DNR and they DO care. I get sick of hearing all the negativity. It has to be really hard trying to please 750,000 hunters while keeping the farmers and insurance companies happy. And not to mention keeping the deer heard healthy and doing all that with massive budget shortfalls and lack of personell. I think the DNR should be applauded for what they have accomplished in our state. Certainly there will be bumps along the road, but given the many variables to deal with, I think they do a pretty good job overall.

Talk about a monumental task to manage the outdoors in Michigan...wow....

The CO's and Wildlife folks with whom I've encountered have all been cordial and professional. Now...I didn't appreciate being patted down like a felon on the dike at Pt. Mouillee, but I guess the dude was only doing his job.

Heck...the DNR guy at the Holland launch put us right on the fish the first time Trollinator and I ever launched there...nice guy!

I'm with you on this to Paul. There are alot things i'd like to see changed. But I think overall they do a pretty good job.

the problem that we will see on this is continued pressure on what the DNR can do ... as budgets get reduced further something is going to have to give.

Hopefully new technology like the wire-tag coding machines and Internet licensing will help the DNR be more cost-effective. The CO's and field people have a hard job and are spread thin...those folks deserve our full support.
