Niagra Bar Report

Tried to post this on the report page but there is not a place for the Niagra Bar. Maybe Tom can move this over to were it belongs.

Fished the bar from Wednesday afternoon till Saturday afternoon. Arived at the motel about 1:00 Wednesday. settled in and forced my father to go out for a four hour afternoon trip. Good move. Steady pick for 4 out of 5. Dad got upset because his first fish was the loss and did not think he would get another one that afternoon. He was wrong.
Got out late the next day due to the 9 hour drive to get to the lake the day before. Slow pick for the day. Managed 4 for 7. Dad was reel pissed with one of the lost fish because it was on for a while and out about 300 feet when it came unbuttoned. Another one was lost ten feet behind the boat. Fish for these two days averaged 15 to 19+ pounds.
Tried to get out Friday. About 1/4 the way out to where we were getting the fish we decide the 6 footers were too much and headed back in. Fished the river for the morning and managed one smallmouth and a bunch of sheepshead. By the way, managed sheepshead out int he lake also but not in the counts. A friend of mine was out in the lake with a much bigger boat and managed one laker and a king. Baot broke down, wind blew him back to the river were I picked him up and towed him back to the dock.
Saturday left the dock early. Was pleased with a flat lake. Got out to our spot with dad and my friend on board. First hour was great. Though not a true tripple we had four out of the six rods out of the water at one time, with two fish in the bottom of the boat right after releasing one. The day slowed way down after the first two hours for every one out there. I had a fish on that took a half hout to get in the boat and took up a good portion of the good bite time. Anyway we managed 6 for 8. A couple of smaller ones today but that nice fighter was again just short of 20 pounds.

Depths of 150 to 170 were the ticket for the week. This may not be the great days the locals are experiancing on other days but was better than anyone we spoke to at the docks and much larger fish than they were getting. I thank you all for the info on this site to the reason we did so well. THANK YOU.

Buy the way, best lures were the Miami dolphin and the fire tiger. A couple of others went but not like these. Also a green with glow tape E-chip flasher with a green crinkle flie and a white flasher and one of Keith's blue flies.

As soon as I figure out how to decrease the pixels on my pictures I will post them in the gallery.

Way to go Richard! I'm glad that the fish and weather cooperated for you. When a guy drives that far to fish it's always a shame when of of those two factors don't come through.

Thanks Jim,

There was one day (Friday) that the wind was no fun. I kicked up six footers and I was not too happy when Dad said we should turn around and forget the day. I may have not been happy but knew it was the right decision. I did not post it but we fished the river that day and caught one smallmouth and about six or seven sheepshead. They put on a good fight in that current. The other days made up for it and I am very happy we added an extra day to the trip compaired to last year.

Thanks again.

Richard
