ok guys, I'm new this year to the big lake fishing and i have been reading alot about flies and flashers and dodgers and can't forget the spindoctors.
I have been trying all of them and all different lengths of leaders. I have yet to hit a fish on a fly. I have all kinda of them from all different ppl, i run one every time i go out and never seem to hit a fish on one.
So........ will some one PLEASE fill me in on the trick to geting fish on a fly.
What size flasher and dodger and spndoctor.
Thank you
Larry

Larry, try a white/glow 8" SD or FC with a purple mirage fly with a 24" leader and use the hole by the fin in the back. Put it on a diver with ring set to 3 and 80' back to start. Then if no hits in 15 minutes let it back 10' each time until you hit 200' back. If nothing yet try a green/glow 8" with pickled or liquid sunshine fly with the same measurements. These 2 setups have been hot this year for me, but some days they want spoons and the fly rig goes dead. I still run them anyway because we get bigger fish on them. 20' leads on the riggers works well too.

Larry , watch your speed when pulling dodgers/attractors , to much speed is bad , the fishcatcher and spin doctors will tolorate more speed than a LJ metal dodger or Opti-Doger will. I like about 2.2 max for metal dodgers and you want them to rock back and forth with an occassional roll , the FC and Spin Doctors do rotate but you want a nice erratic action to them , not just spinning wildly . Has been more of a spoon bite lately but see more and more guys doing it on acctractors and flys so now would be the time to get them in the water and run them in your spread , some days the attractor/flys don't take many fish , but they do draw fish into your other lures so it pays to leave a couple in the water even if your not catching fish on them. Good luck.

I've had a lot of success with attractor/flies on downriggers but even more so on Dipsys. My leaders are approx. 21" from the loop to the head of the fly most of the time but sometimes longer or shorter leaders are better. If your dipsy rod and/or net handle are long enough, try a longer leader between your dipsy and attractor. I rarely ever have less than 8'. The fly bite should only get better in the next month so don't get discouraged.

OK well I started to hit some fish on flies. I was just running the wrong length leader on them
after bill and i went out I made all the leaders alot shorter and that was the trick.
Hey bill, how is your boat going? Did you get it fixed yet? let me know whats going on bud.

Larry:

Got the new head on and she purrs like a kitten on the hose. Next will be the true test with the lake trial. I'm hoping to get out either Sat or Sun but my schedule is screwed up this week and I have to work Sat night so if it's Sunday, it will be later. I'll give you a call Friday and maybe we can hook up.
