I'll borrow this topic from Greg and start a new thread for us walleye guys.
For me, this season was my best ever on Lake Erie. I'm not sure if it was just that the fishing was SO OUTSTANDING, or I'm getting better. Probably a little of both. Looking thru my informal log, there were only 5 trips this season that didn't produce limit catches for everyone on board. One trip was shortened by weather, one by work schedule, one got jinxed by banannas (Paul). The other two, I just couldn't get them going good.
Fished with a couple guys from this site this year Paul & Clark and am glad to call them friends. Met many others at the EA outing in Ludington.
Hoping to get out a couple more times before winterizing.

I would have to agree with the above regarding the 2006 season. Fantastic fishing from early March all the way through August. Planning on hitting the Lorain/Vermilion areas very soon for some fall pigs...along with the islands areas as well. Fish are starting to move back to the West it would seem.
Most trips for me in the Maumee ended with limits, or near limits. I released a bunch of female fish this season, purposely trying to only keep the good "eater" fish for the ride home. Most of my lake trips (fishing with several different guys) ended in limits as well.
Glad to meet Little Dandy. Very cool to have a new buddy who shares the passion (oh...and the Carolina is nice too....

2006 was great, but it ended WAY to early in the central basin. Our catch rates dropped significantly from the middle of August on. By late September we were just scraping a few fish in the DEEEEEEEP H20. 2005 was great because we were boating excellent catches into mid October. Early cooldowns don't help much when you are fishing Conneaut, OH and east.

Can't say that my walleye year was all that great in 2007. Timing is everything and mine was just messed up. Three trips from Lansing.
First one ended in the Cabelas parking lot with a bad trailer bearing/hub that turned into a two axle trailer rebuild. BUT, did meet Mike as he saw the disabled SeeCat in the parking lot and stopped to help.
Headed to Erie again with a friend and his 16' Ranger. Seas were only 1 to 2' and we did catch our limit of walleye with a mix of drifting and trolling.
Picked up the fixed rig 3 weeks later and headed to Stearling. We got out fishing, but couldn't find the 'eyes. Moved 4 or 5 times but all we could do was catch a jackpot on sheepies. The three of us caught 180+. I started counting after the first 10 or 15 and quite after 100. Every time one of the guys got one he let loose with an "oh shit", so that became the new nick name of sheepshead on the Cat.
Tried to plan one late season, fall trip but that early snow storm before Halloween screewed that up.
Turned my attention to Lake Michigan from July on.
Can't wait for April!!

This year was our best by far. We were able to get out early and often fish both days on the weekends. We primaly focus our efforts on the west end of Erie. We made our first trip on the second of April, and our last on October 8th (then duck hunting started). In between we made 28 others and put a total of 497 eyes in the cooler. Put many more in the boat.
Overall it was a banner year, and next year we will be pressed to do as well, but the with the 03 class a full pound larger, it should be great for fillets!

This past season had to be one of the best that I can remember. At times the fishing seemed to darn easy.I had trips this spring and summer that we left the dock at 6:00 and were back at 7:30.Most of those were with 5 man limits. I started the season in the boat on the last weekend in March and it was a day to remember. Was fishing with my 2 best fishing friends and caught 2 14lb plus eyes about 5 minutes apart. Those were my first 14lb fish after fishing Erie for 33 years. The trolling bite out by the cans in front of Camp Perry was excellent for big fish through the month of April. The jig bite near shore in front of Turtle Creek was as good as ever with 4 days of catching and releasing over 100 eyes a day. This fishing was done within 1/4 mile of shore. The summer bite was excellent trolling between the Gravel Pit and West Sister as well as the Brest Bay area. 2007 should be just as good with the fish being in the 3-4 class this year. The fall fishing was great as well any where Sterling State Park all the way east to Cleveland trolling cranks.Over all ,I would have to say the Eye bite was great and Erie lived up to being the Walleye Capital of the world once again.
