It appears this petition is related to or focused towards the benefit of the commercial fishery as I see it. Not sure that it has much value for sportfisherman from my read through, it's unclear if the virus ban is affecting our ability to stock the fishery, I will attempt to get some clarification.

Perhaps some of our fisheries members may be able to shed some light on the subject.

Greg - as it stands right now we can't stock. The petition refers to "many small business make their living" - that means charter captains. The petition was created by Matt Wilson (WilsonMJ@Hiram.edu).

I don't think it implies anything about commecials, other then the other industry the APHIS order effects, bait dealers and fish farmers.

It would be great if you could do some digging.

Thanks

This article kind of agrees with what I was reading the APHIS order. Not that it makes any sense it does seem the state fisheries will be able to plant fish in their state waters but will not be able to transport those fish outside of the state.

I would guess that this was not APHIS intention and it will be amended and may affect the planting of fish from state fisheries. Although it seems that USDA would be able to determine if VHS existed in the fishery before restricting the planting of fish.

I have sent a few emails out requesting clarification, we will see what I get back.

Hi Greg,

I think when USDA created the ban they did this out of ignorance to fishery and stocking program on the great lakes.

Here is the Illinois DNR's response to the order. As you know Illinois stocks with fish they get from Michigan.
