If you actaully get a minute to sit down and have a soda/sandwhich whatever, call your fishing buddy as a "courtisey call". usually this helps trigger a hit because you got to A: drop the phone B: drop your sandwhich C: drop your soda D: point and yell fish on and see who gets there first.

i really think fish dont like it when we are busy doing something else, they tend to bite on of our lures to side track on whatever it was we were trying to do.

case in point, on a slow day i would slowly let out a 3 color leadcore behind the boat, put a snap wieght on and let some more out. get it in the middle rod holder so it would be "in the way" if we got a fish on. sure enough, everytime i get it set up (3 times in a row i think) we got a fish on. so i had to pull it in quick while someone else faught the fish. and i would do that all day, if i had to, if nothing else was working. thank god i dont have to all day.

Add a pinch pad to your net handle and place the net bag into it to hold it back while netting a fish so that the net won't flow back into the fish and get caught on the lures hooks. Bye bye fish.

Sticky sharp hooks! Very few brand new baits have sharp hooks. Also, keep the sharpener away from your those who don't own their own set of tools, and are just mimicking what they've seen before.

When removing a fly from the fish be sure to grab the shank of the hook with the pliars not the head of the fly . this will make your flys last lots longer

Don't turn down a chance to ride on someone elses boat or act as an observer. Everyone does things a little differently, there is always something different or new you can pick up.

When ever checking or changing lures on downriggers let the lure "float" up on it's own. Caught several fish this year that were following the bait including a 24# king in May.

Carry an assortment of generic colored spoons. White, Silver, Black, Gold. This way if hits are coming on a certain color combination you can duplicate it. You can add colored tape strips or use colored permanent markers to give your spoon the custom touch.

Use clear nail polish to hold threaded ends of downriggers, bolts, etc. Will break loose easy enough and will prevent the loss of that new rod holder

Keep a log! It can be a pain in the .... when things are hectic but it sure beats relying on your memory. Make sure it includes the vital stats especially depth of lure, depth of water, color, speed, distance back, time and weather and lake condtions. It can help trigger an idea when things are slow and it gives you something to read while your fighting cabin fever.
