This thread discusses the Content article: BoatGear: Get Ready for the Season

In this article there is mention of a saftey cable while he is talking about checking his speed and temp probe, I just bought a Moor subtroll and was wondering about this safety cable can someone describe (explain) a little better for me. Is this something incase your downrigger cable brakes so you dont lose your probe?

You connect the probe to the downrigger cable and the safety or breakaway cable to the bottom of the probe. The downrigger weight attaches to the end of the breakaway cable. This way if you get the downrigger weight stuck in a net or other hazard, the safety / breakaway cable gives away and all you have lost is the weight.

A safety/ breakaway cable is a good insurance policy, rather have to buy another weight than a probe.

Safety / breakaway cables are available for less than $20.

Oh, I see. The Moor Sub Troll that I just bought came with the stuff needed to do that just did not call it that. Thanks for the info!
