After last weeks 6-day marathon with Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Lightning McQueen, and Buzz Lightyear, I was ready to get back out in the water for some walleyes.

Reports were horrible, as the cold snap that apparently hit while we were gone had taken the Maumee river temp back down to the low 40's. I fished Sunday morning for two hours at three different locations (Towpath, White St. and Jerome Road) and found high water conditions, along with cold temps and nearly zero visability. I didn't bump a fish the entire time, and only saw one fish landed, and it was snagged in the belly.

The weather warmed up on Monday, and Duckdude had a blast with some other buddies at the Towpath. I hit the Fort Meigs area last night with him, and we managed 7 between the two of us, 4 for him, and 3 for myself. Chris probably outfished me 2:1, as he landed several legals and tossed 'em back. All fish were small jacks in the 16-17" range. Fishing pressure was heavier than on Sunday, but that will happen when the water level drops.

Best rig for me was a pink #2 floater with a glow tail on a 36" leader behind a 3/8oz egg sinker. Chris was using orange floaters with chartreuse tails with similar weight egg sinker and length of leader. I didn't have any orange heads, and Chris was being a bit stingy with his...

It was great to get out again and to put another vacuum pack of "yum yums" in the freezer again.

Chris and I will be teaming up to fish the 17th Annual Maumee Tackle Walleye Tournament this Sunday in the river. I've fished this tournament several times, and so has Chris. We'll be fishing from my boat, so hopefully we can fare well. It's a "jacks-only" tournament, weighing your combined 5 heaviest fish. It typically takes about 20# to win. The tournament is quite the marathon, as fishing time starts at 6:45am on Sunday, and you have to be in the weigh-in line by 3:00pm...so that means a solid 7.5 hours on the river.

God knows how much tackle we'll go through in that time...glad I bought that bulk of 300 egg sinkers a couple weeks back! I'll probably not hit the river prior to Sunday, but I'm sure my expert scout Duckdude will have a good idea of where to fish!
