We rested Saturday evening and Sunday morning and went out at 2:00 Sunday afternoon. High temp in the low 80s. We called several EA friends and they told us that other ports were doing better. Fish were being caught in Ludington and Muskegon. We almost drove down. We almost went up to Leland where we clobbered them last year Labor day weekend. Instead we launched Manistee and again fished just off the nets in 150 - 200 ft. where our friends went 5 - 6 in their boat that morning. If they hadn't hit a few, we would've gone elsewhere.

We finally got 'em! We went 9 - 10 with 7 kings and 2 cohos. All fish came on spoons from dipsy and balls. Nothing on flies, squids or J plugs. The hot spoon was Moonshine Yellowtail 6 ft. behind a chrome dodger 90 ft. down and 100 ft. behind the ball. It took the big fish of 18.5 lbs and accounted for 4 fish. Monkey puke took 2 fish - 14 and 17.8 lbs. S winds 10 mph. 2.2 mph troll. Fish were caught trolling both north and south. Bigger fish were off the balls. Largest fish off the dipsys was 12 lbs. 120 ft. back. Orange crush spoon. Half of the fish were dipsy fish. Even less boats out. Most of the fish came between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. Right in the middle of the day! We were done by 8:00 p.m. Pier fishermen were skunked. Very few were even trying it.

Nice job Steve...

It seems like August has been an abnormal month this year. We've been fishing out of Ludington with similar results, lots of time spent finding them and bad weather.

It's like good sex or a great golf shot, when it finally happens it's worth all the money you've spent.
