salmon steelhead rods

why are salmonsteelhead rods so long with such long butts,would they make good blade bait rods for white bass and hybrids.

welcome aboard ... big rods and salmon - that's a good question. There are ofcourse many schools of thought on this, so I'll offer my opinion. I think it is a combination of cross-over fly guys ... using big 10' noodle rods and spinning gear, which is really fun - mainly using very light line. These big rods are light-action and act as a shock abosrber so you can go after 20+ lbs. salmon with 6 lb. test line. The problem I have with the big monster rods is they are a real handful -I have enough problems handling 8'6" light action rods with spinning gear.

I'm sure they would be fun for fishing for hybrids, hopefully these are big fish so you take advantage of the large fighting butt LOL

Thanks for the info.They are a handful from a float tube,when the fish aren't biting,but a dream for handling big fish when the bite is on.
