I had my first experience trying to catch Salmon while they are running in the river. We are fishing Illinois/Indiana waters and diligiently used spawn sacs on a dropshot rig and a carolina rig. Any more advice would be appreciated; or steer me to a good book to read. I realize it is still early in the season-and it's warm outside, but I want to be prepared when it gets to the busy season! What a rush watching the fish swim up stream. Thanks!!

Check ouut River Salmon Fishing by Bill Stinson - it's the only one that I have read through and it's pretty darned good. Believe you can get it at Amazon.com. Hope this helps keep us up to date with how your river fishing progresses.

My Brother and Nephew are big Salmon river fishermen but they are typically fishing flies only areas (with spinning tackle but using flies) or driftboat fishing and back trolling hot-n-tots and other body baits like thundersticks.
