Finally some help on the Cormorant problem in the lower Au Sable River!  The past few years these birds, in my opinion, have caused a huge problem with Lake Huron and its tributaries.  Every spring the lower Au Sable is stocked with around 125,000 to 150,000 young 6"-8" steelhead.

The last few years after this stocking is done huge numbers of Cormorants move into the river and feed heavy on these young steelhead before they can get into Lake Huron.  The Michigan DNR is now setting up a program this spring to try and protect these young steelhead and volunteers are needed for the last two weeks in April.

April 11th at 7pm there is a meeting in Oscoda at the Au Sable River Store (right at bridge on River Rd) with DNR biologist to discuss details of plan.  Steelhead will be planted the week of April 16th and volunteers will be needed then.  This is a very important first step in controlling these birds and improving the steelhead fishing in the lower Au Sable River and your help is really needed.  If your willing to help please come to meeting in Oscoda.

If your not able to make meeting and would like to help please contact Kelly at 989-848-5983.
