I read an article recently in Great Lakes Angler (GLA)?extolling the virtue of lightweight tackle for large Chinook Salmon (20+ lbs.?class).??The GLA article?speculated that going light can make something happen on a tough bite which is good enough reason in my book. Anything to keep you sharp on a slow day, you don't want to miss that one strike.? There was speculation that because of the increased water clarity in the Great Lakes, line visibility plays a larger roll in getting rid of the skunk?that is?in your boat.? Shallower and sunnier play a big roll in whether line visibility is a problem, but that's not my motivation for developing a light tackle approach.

The question that burns in my mind?- how light can you go?? I want to know whether a 25 lbs. King can be caught on four (4) pound test.? I speculate that you can put a big?fish?in the boat using very lightweight tackle but can you become consistent at it.

Many?factors play a roll in the success of developing a consistent light tackle presentation.? Here's my plan to develop a technique that works for the waters I fish, the type of boat that I run, and the Team that I fish with.
