Jay related to us that he has over the years minimized the amount of tackle that he carries, not to say he doesn't carry a bunch of baits and rods.? Jay's favorite colors to work are (in no particular order):

  • Black/Blue
  • Black/Brown
  • Pumpkin seed
  • Watermelon
  • Pumpkin/Green/Chartreuse

These colors relate to his choices in plastics and in jig trailers.? Jay suggested that as a possible approach in determing what's working he woul work an area thouroughly with several jig and trailer combinations and then go back and take a pass with soft plastics.? If this approach does not produce results it is time to change it up and get creative trying to get something going.

Jay on Crankbaits and Spinnerbaits

Versatility is what it takes to be Angler of the Year and Bassmaster Classic champion, Jay may prefer to fish jigs but he is very accomplished at many techniques including crankin' and spinnin'.? Jay approaches crankbaits by breaking down six compoonents:

  • Size of lure
  • Diving Depth
  • Diameter of line
  • Action or wobble
  • Color
  • Rattle
