Locals say new native fishing rights could put an end to sport fishing PDF

??Well, that?s the end of our sport fishing,? said Jim Beange, president of the Lake Huron Fishing Club, after the Ministry of Natural Resources awarded the Saugeen and Ojibway First Nations broad commercial fishing rights last Wednesday. The new five-year deal extends native commercial fishing from Craigleith on Georgian Bay to Point Clark on Lake Huron.
Beange has many concerns about the new arrangement.
?So far the ministry has not regulated the catches or put in any controls on the native commercial fisheries,? he said, concerned about a possible depletion of the stock.
An earlier agreement in 2000 had given rights to commercial fishing close to Colpoy?s and Owen Sound bays.
