Catch bass at night! PDF

Bass fishing can be at its best during the night.? Especially on lakes that are heavily fished, fishing ...
...at night can be the way to catch numbers of bass, and larger ones as well. My bass club has a night tournament every year.? The tournament is from 8pm to 8am.? I have fished 3 years with this?club, and have won two of the tournaments, and got second place on the other.? This is what I did in these tournaments.
During the light hours of the tournament, use whatever bait you have condifence in (topwater, tube, etc.)? When the sun goes down, it is time to change tackics.? First, i only use two different baits at night.? The first bait is a black plastic worm.? I use a 7" berkley powerbait curly tail worm, and an 8"?"The Big One" pre-riged, 3 hook black plastic worm.?
I use these baits mostly during the low light hours of the tournament, just as the sun sets, and right as the sun is rising.? Most of the night, however, I am throwing one bait.? From around 11pm until 5am, I am throwing a black, single blade?spinnerbait.? There are a couple modifications that need to be made to the bait.?
First, make sure you are throwing a trailer hook on the bait at all times.? Bass often strike at this bait at night, and only get hooked by the trailer hook.? Second, try to bulk up the skirt.? Either put a second black skirt on the spinnerbait, or use a black grub on the main hook.? Finally, and most importantly, you must replace the blade on the bait with a large, colorado #5 or #6 blade, the larger the better.? The large blade gives off much more vibration and flash than a smaller blade.?
Now that you have the perfect night bait tied on your rod, you have two variations in the retrieve to use.? The first method is to burn the bait right at, or barely under the suface of the water.? When I am burning a spinnerbait, I try to keep it just an inch under the surface, and I use my rod and lift up on the line to make the blade pop out of the water.? The strike will often come as the blade comes out of the water.? This is similar to a buzz bait, but more subtle.
The other way to retrieve this bait is to crawl it as slow as possible.? I try to reel the bait so slowly that i can actually feel the blade make a single turn.? I try to keep the bait just above the weeds or bottom, and occasionally hitting the weeds and popping free.? The slow roll retrieve tends to work better, but throw in a fast retrieve every few casts or so.? Now the only problem you have fishing at night in a tournament is culling in the dark.
